With reference to my despatch No.155 or
Juns 29th and to Mr Brenan's despatch No.32 of June
19th, a copy was sent direct to Your Lordship, I
have the honour to inclose a further despatch from
Me Brenan referring to comments in the Press on a
telegram which at the instance of the Chinese Go-
vernment I sent to the Governor of Hong Kong sugges-
ting that the Directors of the Chinese Tung Wah
Hospital should issue notices calculated to calm
the public excitement and restrain the popular fer-
ment against foreigners at Canton. I have the
honour to inclose to Your Lordship a copy of this
telegram and of Sir William Robinson's reply.
